Captain Mike Yorke began lobstering and fishing out of Perkins Cove at the age of nine, continuing a proud maritime tradition that traces back to his great-great-grandfather, Eben Ramsdell.
Captain Yorke’s professional maritime career began as captain of the tour boat at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. He later took the helm of the Rugosa, a lobster demonstration boat in Kennebunkport, before being recruited by a fellow captain to serve as Chief Mate for Blount Small Ship Adventures (formerly the American Canadian Caribbean Line). Over five years with Blount, he traveled extensively throughout North and
South America.
Returning to Maine, Captain Yorke served aboard the Maine Responder, an oil spill recovery vessel based in Portland. He later took command of the NRC Energy, another oil recovery ship stationed in Grand Isle, Louisiana. Following this, he joined TradeWinds Towing, an offshore tugboat company out of New Orleans, where his voyages took him through the Panama Canal and across the Atlantic to Africa.
After a year in the towing and salvage industry in Boston Harbor, Captain Yorke returned to his roots in Maine. With over 24 years as a licensed mariner and a 200 Ton Master license, he now serves as a Harbor Master in Southern Maine. He also captains Miss Rosie part-time for Pine Island Guide Service, sharing his passion for the sea with visitors and locals alike.
