Pain Therapy : Interactive Neurostimulation

Pain Therapy - One Hour - $119
I use a small handheld FDA approved InterX SCENAR device to scan the body, identifying where best to treat. Painless application of interactive nuerostimulation is applied to specific points for targeted and effective treatment.
Developed by the space program and long time 'secret weapon' of the NFL and Olympiads. Based on technology originally designed for astronauts as an alternative to taking medication at zero gravity. InterX non-invasive interactive neurostimulation (NIN) devices provide safe and highly effective pain treatment for those looking for a drug free, lasting and non-invasive alternative.

Jim Maurer, Head Athletic Trainer, Dallas Cowboys says "InterX has become an integral part of our treatment regime, with excellent results in acute, chronic, and post-surgical application. The results, portability and ease of application make InterX a valuable tool for keeping the athletes on the field of play".

InterX SCENAR device provides a professional, non-invasive, drug free solution for pain management. Acute and chronic pain relief resulting in increase in range of motion and accelerated tissue repair.

SCENAR is an acronym for "Self Controlled Energo-neuro Adaptive Regulator". The SCENAR device establishes an ‘active’ biofeedback link with the body that initiates a cycle of healing. It helps locate the heart of an injury via the specific feedback it provides. Treating the ‘heart of the problem” means greater results, targeted treatment for quick and effective results for pain relief and recovery from acute and chronic injury, even years old.

EFFECTIVE FOR:
~ Neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerve cells) and nociceptive pain
(pain arising from the stimulation of nerve cells)
~ Reducing rehabilitation times from surgery, sports injuries and other acute
trauma
~ Great for joint pain recovery, sports injuries, post-surgical pain, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and chronic neuropathic pain!
Clinical research and evidence supports the InterX SCENAR device as the best way to significantly reduce pain and restore function. InterX non-invasive neuromodulation devices are FDA cleared and doctor recommended for the treatment of acute injuries, post-surgical and severe chronic pain.

What does an InterX treatment involve?

Scan: The treatment area is scanned using the InterX device to identify specific areas of low impedance. These are optimal treatment points for InterX stimulation. The scanning can be done either by sliding the device over the skin or by placing the device and taking numerical measurements.

Target: These areas of low impedance are then targeted with very specific stimulation. The interactive stimulation adjusts constantly in response to changes in the electrophysiology of the tissue. This specific, dynamic stimulation is unique to this technology.

Dynamic: If appropriate, the patient is moved through a series of positions, stretches, or exercises while stimulation is applied to points of pain. The portability and ease of application make this a very quick and effective application where neuromuscular and proprioceptive re-education can be combined with interactive neuro-stimulation for enhanced results.

Why is InterX so effective?

The specificity of the Stimulation (Scan)
InterX identifies and treats very specific areas of low impedance. These are areas of skin where nerve endings are displaying a response to injury or pain. So the stimulation is delivered exactly where the body needs it. This is not always where the pain is so it is a great benefit to be able to scan the area with the InterX to identify these points.
The high-density current (Target)
The high amplitude, short pulse width, dynamic waveform elicits a greater response from the body than other electrical stimulation. The InterX has closely spaced electrodes which means the current is very high density and very specific and not restricted by muscle contraction. It is believed that this stimulates a neuropeptide/cytokine cascade which is believed to create a longer-lasting effect. Central nervous system responses are often observed too.
The Interactive Waveform
The parameters of each individual pulse are controlled by the electrophysiology of the tissue. The waveform changes constantly as the body responds to the stimulation and pain relief. This stops the body accommodating to the stimulation making it more effective. It also means that there is no need to use messy conductive gels.

Is the device masking pain?

No, the InterX does not mask pain. Our recommended protocol involves dynamic movement while using the device with or without the accessory electrodes. The neurostimulation from our electrodes along with movement changes the pain signal to the brain. This is one of the most effective treatments for pain relief. Results vary from person to person depending on several factors such as type of pain, time span of pain, a person’s overall health, etc.

Who can benefit from InterX treatment?

Any person can benefit from using InterX devices and accessory electrodes. Our products provide safe, non-invasive treatments that can be used on acute injuries, acute and chronic pain conditions, post-surgical pain, and recovery. InterX products are widely used by the military, professional sports teams, colleges, university sports teams, high school athletics, pre- and post-surgical patients, chronic pain warriors, medical practitioners, rehabilitation clinics, dentists, and those with neuropathic pain, trigeminal nerve pain, or any pain.

Medical Massage Therapist, LMT #8523

Here's more of the specific details:

In the State of Hawaii, every licensed driver involved in an auto collision is allowed up to $10,000 in their choice of ‘alternative’ therapy. This a paid by your own insurance company and cannot be denied to you. You are allowed up to 30 visits of your choice of one or a combination of three ‘alternative therapies’ including medical massage, chiropractic and/or acupuncture therapies to assist in your recovery. This is your right under the law in the State of Hawaii.

Often the cost of the treatment is fully covered by your auto insurance policy, however some policies have restrictions on this benefit that resulted in a lower premium for you. You will want to check with your assigned contact person at your auto insurance company. This person is referred to as your “Insurance Adjuster”. They can help clarify if you are required to meet any co-pay requirements or minimum thresholds before your insurance coverage will ‘kick in’ for this benefit. This will be important to know prior to treatment, as you will ultimately be personally financially responsible, for any amounts not approved for reimbursement by your insurer.

In order to receive medical massage in the State of Hawaii, there are some requirements that must be provided before we can start treatment. Most importantly, you are required to have a physician’s written medical prescription in order to receive medical massage. Often a prescription can be obtained by simply contacting your primary care doctor via phone or email, however, some primary care physicians may require an ‘in person’ office visit to assess your injuries.

In the State of Hawaii, massage therapists are not allowed to diagnose, but must follow specific written instructions from a medical prescription that directs areas for treatment. Therefore the prescription must be detailed and explicit in order for reimbursement to be approved by your insurance company.

Your physician must include the code for each area of diagnosed injury requiring medical massage, these codes must be specifically listed on the prescription.
Generally, 2-4 areas are affected in an auto collision. Each of these areas of injury must be listed with their corresponding ICD-10-CM billable code or reimbursement may be denied.

Generally, we expect an auto collision to require medical massage treatments for 2-3x a week for 4-8 weeks depending on the severity of injury.

Be sure your physician understands that your prescription must include certain specific details to avoid denial of reimbursement, including:

1. Treatment Time: It should specifically state “60-minute medical massage”. (Generally only 60 minutes of medical massage will be approved by an automobile insurance company, regardless if prescription is written for 90 minutes)

2. Billing Codes: All prescriptions much identify the area of injury to be treated along with corresponding ICD-10-CM Billable Codes. A code must be written for each diagnosed area of injury they wish to be treated. (If this is omitted, your claim may be denied)

3. Frequency and Duration: Prescription must indicate number of visits per week, including a total number of weeks prescribed. Example: “2-3x a week for 6 weeks”. (Again, if this is not specified, there will be severe complications in getting fully reimbursed.)

It is very important your physician lists all corresponding ICD-10-CM billable codes.

In order to make the process of listing the correct ICD-10-CM billable codes easier, here are some of the most common injuries incurred in an auto collision for your physicians convenience:

Back Pain General: M54.9
Back Pain Lower: M54.5
Back Pain Upper: M54.6
Elbow Pain Left: M25.522
Elbow Pain Right: M25.521
Foot Pain Left: M25.572
Foot Pain Right: M25.571
Hand Pain Left: M79.642
Hand Pain Right: M79.641
Hip Pain Left: M25.552
Hip Pain Right: M25.551
Knee Pain Left: M25.562
Knee Pain Right: M25.561
Neck Pain: M54.2
Shoulder Pain Left: M25.512
Shoulder Pain Right: M25.511
Whiplash: S13.4XXA
Wrist Pain Left: M25.532
Wrist Pain Right: M25.531

I will take care of all billing and communication with your insurance company upfront with no ‘out of pocket’ cost to you. I will do everything in my power to get your treatment costs fully reimbursed, however, if reimbursement is denied due to clauses in your policy such as minimum threshold requirements or required co-pays, you are financially responsible for any partial or full amounts denied by your insurer for all of your treatments. You will want to obtain this information prior to beginning treatment from your assigned insurance adjuster.
