This support group offers a safe, compassionate space for caregivers of individuals with acquired communication disorders, such as aphasia, traumatic brain injury, or neurological conditions. Participants share experiences, gain emotional support, and access practical resources and strategies to manage communication challenges and caregiving responsibilities. The group fosters connection, resilience, and mutual understanding among those navigating similar journeys.
This caregiver support group will run every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00am. - Voice Banking Session
-
UWSHC offers services to address and support the speech and voice preservation needs of individuals diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Huntington’s Disease. Recording of the speech and voice of clients is completed through a variety of banking processes. UWSHC clinicians provide education on banking options, demonstrations of technology and guidance through the recording process. Clinicians also work with the Communication Aids Systems Clinic at the Waisman Center to support implementation of voice and message recordings with communication devices. Counseling for clients, family members, and relevant others is an integral part of the treatment process.
Cost will cover an initial 60-75 minute visit, and will include a follow-up session as indicated per client need. Scheduling of this follow-up will be completed with clinicians at the first appointment.
Sessions include voice/message banking education and support in order for clients to make banking choices, demonstration and practice of technology, completion of voice sample recording with clinician guidance, and rental of equipment (headphones, recorder) for outside recording of messages (as applicable).
Clinicians facilitate communications with other providers and agencies that support the banking process, so please bring names, contact information for these entities to your appointment. In addition, if you have taken any steps to create accounts with voice banking technology platforms or sites, please bring along as well.
Most individuals who engage in the banking clinic will complete this process within the first 1-2 sessions, warranting payment of the above one-time fee.
*Telehealth sessions are an option for voice banking sessions. Please indicate this request in scheduling question responses.
- Additional Voice Banking Session Follow-Up - $60
- This appointment is for voice banking clients who have already been seen in our clinic and require additional help or troubleshooting support with the banking process.
